Noninvasive assistance provided for minor needs, including cleaning spills, providing a change of clothing, checking for signs of fever, and applying basic adhesive bandages.

In the event of a serious medical emergency, Waxahachie ISD will seek appropriate emergency medical assistance and notify a parent or guardian as soon as possible.

Verification and monitoring of student immunization records in accordance with state requirements.

Vision, hearing, and other required health screenings are conducted in accordance with Texas law, unless a written and signed exemption is submitted when permitted. Parents and guardians may request an exemption from state-mandated health screenings by submitting a written and signed exemption request to the school nurse in accordance with Texas Department of State Health Services requirements. Exemptions may be requested for any or all eligible screenings, including vision, hearing, and spinal screenings, as permitted under the Texas Administrative Code.

Evaluation and treatment of minor injuries to support student health and safety.

Assessment of illness or physical symptoms, including temperature, pulse, blood pressure, and other nursing evaluations as appropriate.

Evaluation of symptoms, guidance regarding exclusion from school when necessary, and clearance for return to school in accordance with public health guidelines.

Administration of parent-provided prescription and over-the-counter medications with required parent authorization and physician orders, as applicable.

Performance of medically necessary procedures, such as gastrostomy tube feeding, with required parent authorization and physician orders.

Support for students with chronic health conditions, such as asthma, diabetes, or seizure disorders, in accordance with physician orders and individualized care plans.

Care for non-emergency health concerns that arise during the school day.

Administration of approved nonprescription medications authorized through the district's standing medical orders.

If a parent chooses to opt out of these routine procedures, they may be contacted and will be responsible for arranging appropriate care, including picking up the student from school as needed in the event the child presents with an acute non-emergent concern.
